Aggravated Assault On Utility Service Employee With A Firearm. Illegal Possession Of Stolen Firearms. Simple Battery - Charges Reduced/Probation

November 2020

In the fall of 2020, police received a call from a utility service employee, stating he had a gun pulled on him by a man referred to as JH. As the employee went to disconnect the electricity, JH protested. The two argued, and the employee saw the barrel of a rifle on JH's back and called the police. When police responded, JH stated that he got the rifle so he could move it to his apartment, which was when the employee saw it and called the police. JH stated that he put the rifle in his neighbor's apartment. The neighbor stated that he had allowed this to happen. Police found the gun to be stolen on the state database. JH was placed under arrest and transported to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center.

Upon further investigation, Mr. Lawrence discovered the firearm had been legally purchased by JH from a pawn shop who had failed to clear the paperwork previously filed stating the gun was stolen. JH was a full time security professional who carried a firearm for work and could not afford a felony on his record. Mr. Lawrence was able to negotiate misdemeanor probation with no permanent charges on JH's record.
